Both the Pennant Midweek League and Three Shires League seasons are now over.
Luton Petanque Club finished 2nd in Division Two of the Pennant League and 6th in Division One of the Three Shires League. Assuming no changes to the league structures, that will mean that next season, we'll be competing in the top division in both leagues. We will continue with our lunchtime informal play sessions on Tuesdays, at 1.30, throughout the winter. Currently there are also sessions on Sundays at 11. Of course, you might want to contact us beforehand if it's wet. Hopefully, we'll have enough new members next year to enter a second team in the Three Shires League. This will be discussed at our AGM in November. On Sunday, 29th September, the Dave Ciano Memorial Triples was held at North Herts Irish Club in Letchworth. Luton Petanque Club's Keir Gale, Alan Roden and Mike Turvey were runners up in the plate, but much more importantly £3,587.22 was raised for Lister Hospital Chemotherapy suite.
Saturday 28th December 2013
This year, our annual Snowboule competition will be on 28th December. Short timed games in a melee format, with plenty of time between games for a warming drink. INTER REGIONAL CHALLENGE
Saturday, 31st August 2013 CHILTERN V SOUTHERN A bright sunny day welcomed our visitors from Southern Region to the new facility at Luton Petanque Club. This was a chance to renew acquaintances with our friends from Southern before the inter regional competition starts at Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, on 14th and 15th September. The teams were evenly matched with Southern fielding a strong squad including their number 1 team for Hayling and, while Chiltern were short of three teams from the top six, the teams stepping in were of a very high standard. The result was 36 matches of the highest calibre with some great boule being played by both teams. The result of the match was decided before the final round started but a late surge by Southern, who won the last round 5 – 1, gave respectability to the score. Final score CHILTERN 20 SOUTHERN 16 Friday 30th August 2013 Mayor of Luton (and one of our club members), Sheila Roden, officially opens Luton Petanque Club's new home in St. Thomas' Road, next door to Stopsley High School. Our thanks go to our sponsors, Napier-Watson Consulting Ltd. and Luton Borough Council, for their help in getting the new venue up and running. We also want to thank Play Football for welcoming us and allowing us to use their bar as our club house. Full report on the Luton News website This summer saw the opening of our new venue. So far this year, as well as regular league games, we have hosted one of the qualifying competitions to select the Chiltern Region squad for 2013, and our own over 50s competition. |
