On Sunday 21st June, the club hosted the Three Shires League doubles competition. Luton Petanque Club was represented by three teams, Alan and Sheila Roden; Steve Deacon and Georgina; and Gary Fabian and Steve Lewis (their first competition). The competition was organised as a five round ‘snake’ with the top four going through to the semi-finals.
The line-up included some top regional and national players and there was almost a shock in the first round when Alan and Sheila lost 12-13 against two of the best players in the region. Steve and Georgie almost made the semi-finals but just lost out due to a defeat in the last round (to Alan and Sheila!). Gary and Steve gained some invaluable experience and some coaching from one of the region’s top players, after which they won their next match!
The semi-finals and final were great and close games with the eventual winners being Sam Blakey and Reece Gould, both ex Chiltern juniors and now top national and international players.
The organisers thanked Luton PC for our hospitality and a good time was had by all.
