Last year was a very busy and successful one for LPC and its members. Some 50 medals trophies and cups were won by LPC members at the Summer Sunday competitions and the Three Shires and Pennant Leagues.
The Plaiters again won the Three Shires 1st Division Runners up Cup which is effectively winning the league as no-one ever beats Orange Tree B (who are mostly made up of Baldock Town players – a team in the top ten of Europe or the petanque equivalent of Man City).atters won
Hatters were the Three Shires 2nd Division Runners Up which has earned them promotion to the 1st Division.
In the Pennant League Projets were unable to retain their 1st Division spot so will be playing in the 2nd Division in 2024. Aviators won the Pennant Challenge Cup for the second year running.
Throughout the winter the piste was still very busy with Tuesday and Sunday social meetings and there were two leagues organised by Three Shires and Pennant leagues. LPC hosted some league matches and Pennant Finals Day in March. Our club provided 3 teams for both Pennant and Three Shires Leagues.
When the Winter League had finished the Summer League started a few weeks later and LPC entered 4 teams in the Three Shires and 2 teams in the Pennant Leagues.
The Euro Cup 2023/24 is underway and a Luton team captained by Ross Manfredi is progressing well having recently beaten Sports Bar 5-0 and will face a team from Brentwood early this year. If they win that they will progress to the Semi Finals this Summer.
Throughout the year LPC hosted some 5 all day weekend tournaments and Snowboule. This is half as many as last year because Chiltern Region managed to rebuild the terrain at the Plough in Langford which took the pressure of Luton Sunday social meetings. Both Three Shires League and Chiltern Region are very grateful for the use of the Luton facility.
In September Petanque England organised the annual Inter Regional competition which took place at Pakefield Pontins in Suffolk. Chiltern Region won the Championship cup, the Challenge Cup and the Presidents Cup. A clean sweep.
LPC members were involved in both the Championship and Challenge Sections of this competition and provided 10 members for all stages of the competition and managers for all squads. At the last minute LPC provided the manager for the Combined team too.
LPC has 29 PE members which is more than any other club in Chiltern Region.
To conclude the year LPC organised and hosted Luton Snowboule where some 25 people attended and raised substantial funds for the club.
A happy and successful new year to all our members
